About Us
Sivananda Center was founded in Columbia, South Carolina, as a way to give back to the local communities that have supported us. We support RamDev Rao Hospital, Sivananda Rehabilitation Home, and Kumudini Devi College of Nursing, in Hyderabad, India—a center dedicated to caring for people who are poor and ill-- as well as local U.S. charities, such as the Free Medical Clinic.
About Sivananda Rehabilitation Home (SRH)
Founded in 1958, the Sivananda Rehabilitation Home was established by Kumudini Devi who was deeply influenced by the teachings of Swami Sivananda and inspired to serve impoverished communities through social work. Although she held many prominent roles in government, including serving as the first female mayor of Hyderabad, Kumudini Devi devoted her life to founding and sustaining SRH, along with an orphanage known as Balika Nilayam.
In 2002, members of Kumudini Devi’s family in the United States established the Sivananda Center to support her mission and ensure the continuation of her work. She passed away peacefully in August 2009 at the age of 98, leaving behind a lasting legacy of compassion and service.
