About Us

Sivananda Center was started in Columbia, South Carolina, to give back to the local communities that have supported us.  We support Sivananda Rehabilitation Home (center to help people who are poor and diseased) based in Hyderabad, India as well as local US charities, such as the Free Medical Clinic.

About Sivananda Rehabilitation Home (SRH)
In 1958, SRH founder Kumudini Devi was influenced by the teachings of Swami Sivananda, encouraging her to help poverty stricken people through social work.
Though she had held many positions of influence in the government (including being the first female mayor of Hyderabad) Kumudini was more interested in setting up SRH and an orphanage, Balika Nilayam.
Kumudini's family in the U.S. started Sivananda Center in 2002 to support her work and ensure that it continues. She passed away in August 2009 peacefully at the age of 98.
