PARTNERS WITH SIVANANDA REHABILITATION HOME
Hyderabad: HSBC Global Resourcing as a part of its overall Corporate Social Responsibility initiative has pledged USD 25,000 towards the support for 24 orphaned children suffering from HIV/AIDS. These children are a part of Sivananda Rehabilitation Home (SRH), an organisation based in Hyderabad, which works to restore health, hope and dignity to people affected by Leprosy, Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.
As a token of commitment Rumi Contractor, CEO HSBC Global Resourcing today presented an initial cheque for Rs. 6,00,000/- to Meera Rao, Hon. Joint Secretary, SRH. These funds were raised through several employee initiatives across the Group Service Centres in Hyderabad over 2006. Also present at the occasion was Richard Farrand, COO HSBC Global Resourcing, South Asia along with other senior members of the organisation.
“Awareness plays a critical role in helping control the spread of HIV/AIDS. Global Resourcing is committed to building awareness and our support to the Sivananda Rehabilitation Home is one more step in this regard. I am privileged to have been able to embody HSBC’s promise towards helping these needy children. I am also pleased to share that employees from HSBC have also expressed interest in volunteering time with these children, to bring a smile to their faces,” said Rumi Contractor.
The funds contributed by HSBC will be used to provide medical support and basic living infrastructure to the children.
HSBC’s Group Service Centres in ten locations across five countries focus on various Education and Environment related activities through Community Committees, which are formed to initiate, guide and channel employee engagement for the purpose of contributing to economic development while improving the quality of life of the local community.
Established in 1958 in Hyderabad, India, Sivananda Rehabilitation Home is dedicated to the Treatment, Care and Rehabilitation of patients suffering from Leprosy, Tuberculosis (TB) & HIV/AIDS. SRH also runs an Old Age Home for Elderly Ladies. In October 2005, in partnership with Andhra Pradesh AIDS Control Society (APSACS) a 20-bedded ‘Sivananda Care & Support Children’s Home’ was inaugurated which caters to orphans who are HIV positive. The home currently caters to 20 children between the ages of 3 to 12 years of age, 11 girls and 9 boys. (http://www.sivanandarehab.org)
